It was another great trip to Yvon, Haiti, with what seemed to be even more accomplished. Or maybe I just needed to get my feet planted the first year (2019) and be more in the know this year. You never know what will call you into action to the needs of the people, but we seemed to hit it on the head with the sewing project, as that was a top priority for the women who spoke up at the Women’s Conference that was held while we were there. Little did they know that five treadle sewing machines were already there for them and plans for them to use them in a classroom setting. I could list many things that Matt worked on with the Yvon people, but one thing that I often share with others is the conversation with an elderly local woman on our way back from the coconut grove. Tammy asked how she was, and even though there was a language barrier, it was understood that she needed prayer. Tammy offered for us to pray with her right there beside the road, but the woman beckoned us to follow her to her two-room home, through a front room with very little in it to her bedroom with also very little. She knelt by her bed while we prayed and laid hands on her as we prayed for her wellbeing. It is not just our resources that can be of help, but our presence and caring.

Many made this trip possible, from Matt’s great planning with the contacts in Haiti to the friend who looked after my cat, to the borrowed church van and Matt’s father driving, to the Albion couple who opened their home to us on our late night return so we could sleep a few hours before driving home in the morning light. God is good!
