The famous hymn proclaims, “I surrender all. All to Jesus, I surrender.”
I love this song as a testimony to Jesus’ invitation for us to “deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him.” The role of surrender has been misunderstood throughout the history of the Church creating views of surrender having to do more with what we are giving up than with what joy comes through our surrender.
E. Stanley Jones in his book Victory Through Surrender writes, “Surrender then is not a grudging compulsion but a happy yielding of ourselves to the love and goodness of God, to God himself.”
I want to invite you to consider purchasing and reading this great E. Stanley Jones book. I recently read it again and was reminded of the need for daily surrender as a way to experience the fullness of who God created me to be.
