I am writing this article as I prepare to make my nineteenth trip to Haiti (June 24-28). This trip is unique as I will be traveling alone. As you read in previous versions of the Adventure Journal, there was a Level 4: Do Not Travel Warning for Haiti for most of the late winter and throughout the Spring. Because of this warning, I decided it would be easier for me to travel alone.
During this trip, I will stay in Petionville at the Guest House for the first and last night of my stay. I will travel to Sobier where I will stay for two nights. My brother in Christ and translator, Lemaire will be with me during my stay in Sobier. We look forward to meeting with two school principals with whom we have invested money to secure a better future for the school. If the projects are going well, I will invest more money into the projects. We will meet with members of the village and church leaders concerning future projects in Sobier. We will lead a Men’s Conference and Women’s Conference on Wednesday afternoon, and we will meet with Nanel who accepted Christ during the Sunday morning church service last year.
In Petionville, I plan to meet with Pastor Michel Morisette from Gonaives. He was an active leader within the Christian Ashram movement for many years. I was recently able to connect with him through Facebook and WhatsApp so we could begin conversations about restarting the Christian Ashram in Haiti. While in Petionville, I also plan to spend time encouraging the Guest House Staff and getting to hear about their needs and experiences during the time of unrest in Haiti.
I covet your prayers for this trip. There have been continued demonstrations and protests seeking the President’s resignation. Some of the main roads have been closed because of the demonstrations. Please pray for safe passage for Lemaire, our driver, and I as we travel back and forth to Sobier. Also, pray for the people of Haiti as they continue to look into a future that is unclear and unsettled. Finally, pray for fruit to come from this trip. I am praying for life-change for people and for a clear vision for Living the Adventure Ministries’ continued work in Haiti.
Finally, I have tentatively set the dates for our “Winter Trip,” as January 13-21, 2020. We will travel to Yvon where we will continue to work on the school expansion and lead conferences for men, women, and youth. We will also continue our work in water filtration and investing in the local community. If you sense God’s call upon your life to travel with me in January, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org or 618-830-6670). The cost for the trip is $2300/person.
